![]() ![]() Among mercenaries I would expect at a minimum the same if not greater ratios based on market availability. This does not get into any of the cultural differences, era, Periphery vs Inner Sphere, mercenaries or various types/levels of militias & forces. We are told that the average force structure in the IS among national ground forces is for each mech regiment there are three armor and five infantry regiments in the early material IIRC. I know I gave a off-hand response for a OOC answer earlier but I am going to come at it another way. You will still need support vehicles and troops but you an say they are in the background as with most fiction that skip the hours of prep before and hours of clean up after. Mechs can preform most jobs well enough, you can get away with a force compromised mostly with mechs and the necessary supplies for those machines as long as you plan ahead. My own in universe explanation for why we don't see more combined arms more often is commanders trying to simplify logistics as much as possible during interstellar theater of war. ![]() One piece of short fiction for a MWDA event featured a commander calling off artillery as it became a danger close situation in a urban environment, I would apply that same logic to most games as many of us play on reliability small maps and/or within close proximity of most incoming artillery. I know tanks have always been mentioned that tanks are the more affordable fighting unit (well, the more modest size ones) Troops have always been needed as they can take and hold realestate mechs cannot, thus the need for MGs/anti-infantry capabilities (well, post TW anyway) Artillery has always been mention in passing in the fluff text but not mention often in fiction, I guess just most writers are afraid of not using it properly as some decisive battles in the SB mention the effective use of artillery. ![]() You see more about combined arms in Dark Age, the Grey Death books pushed combined arms allot but the original premise of Battlemechs are that mechs are the war machine so it's been hard for some to find balance without taking too much away from battlemechs while making other units just as important. ![]()
